Where Davie County’s Water Comes From

• Davie County Public Utilities: runs two treatment plants, one on Sparks Road that draws from the Yadkin River and a new $50 million plant in Cooleemee, built near the old Erwin Mills dam site.
• Mocksville: in late August 2026, the town shut down its Hugh A. Lagle Water Treatment Plant, which had drawn from Hunting Creek for more than 50 years. Mocksville now buys its water from the county’s Cooleemee plant, while still running its own pipes and billing.
• Private wells: common on the larger rural lots around Advance, Farmington, and the northern part of the county.

• Taste changes after a source switch. Any time a town changes where its water comes from, some homeowners notice a difference in taste or smell, even when the water meets every standard.
